Power Transmission Applications Specialists
Bison has been focused on supplying gearmotors, reducers and motors for use in heavy-duty commercial products for more than 40 years. Continuously expanding the design envelope for gearmotors, we’ve grown to become one of the influential manufacturers of these products in the United States. Most items are available for immediate delivery from distributor and on-line through bisongear.com and factory stock. Bison is also gaining recognition for engineering excellence in Europe.
If you outsource motors, gearmotors, or reducers for your products, Bison's combination of higher quality people and components is a combination that can save your company time and money. At Bison, we go to extraordinary lengths to ensure that the gearmotors, reducers and motors we manufacture precisely meet the performance needs of the products they drive. That includes consulting directly with customers throughout the selection process, in development and testing, and problem solving assistance when requested.
Working with Bison then results in a system that can increase the value of your products to your customers. We will help you create a fine-tuned system that maximizes product performance without sacrificing economy, increases service life and eliminates field failures.
Bison power transmission products are currently being used in conveyors, icemaker-dispensers, food preparation equipment, food dispensers, hot melt dispensers, chemical mixers, door openers, automatic feeders, ventilation systems, exercise equipment, metal cutting equipment, packaging equipment, medical pumping and positioning equipment, battery powered vehicles, military applications, and more.
Bison Products are Built Stronger to Last Longer
A combination of cutting edge design and high quality components, each Bison gearmotor, reducer and motor is a power transmission system capable of producing unusually high torque in a compact package. Their exceptional performance accounts for the fact that they not only last years longer on the job, but deliver dependable performance in applications where others often fail.
- Quality Gearing - Wider widths and smoother hobbing makes Bison gears wear longer even under adverse conditions. And they generate less heat and run more quietly as well.
- Heavy Duty Bearings - Ball and needle bearings are used throughout to increase load-handling capability and lengthen service life.
- Lifetime Lubrication - Gearboxes are oil filled and then permanently sealed to provide superior lubrication over a wide ambient temperature range.
- Stronger Housings - Additional reinforcing and greater wall thickness of Bison’s tough, cast aluminum housings contribute to Bison’s high performance ratings.
- Advanced Technology - Designed to ISO standards and manufactured on modern, computer controlled equipment operated by a TQM trained, skilled workforce, Bison products rank among the best of their kind in the world.
- Rugged Shafts - Standard output shafts are made of hardened steel with keyways.
Bison Value
- Wide-ranging, continually expanding product line
At Bison a higher level of product performance is our commitment. Designed and built to AGMA standards, Bison gearmotors produce as much as two and one-half times more torque than competitive gearmotors in their physical size and price range. This additional torque capacity, known as Bison’s Robusticitytm, allows Bison users to downsize their products without performance loss; or to extend their product life while reducing and often completely eliminating field failures.
With our own PMDC motor line, Bison to expand its product line based upon the individual customers need. In addition, it allows up to rapidly prototype components for usage in your individual application.
This website details our "standard" gearmotors that are available in both United States and Common Market frequencies and voltages.
Available Product Lines:
- AC/DC Parallel Shaft Gearmotors (in single and double reduction versions)
- AC/DC Right Angle Gearmotors
- Speed Reducers (in some cases used as speed increasers)
- PMDC Motors
- IEC Motors
Expert design and application engineering help
Bison has been successfully meeting power transmission challenges for more than 40 years. For that reason, the likelihood is great that we have already solved problems similar to yours. You can be confident that we'll meet your application needs with the most advanced technology available. Continually pushing the design envelope for gearmotors, Bison's technological leadership is recognized throughout the industry.
Expert application assistance, important as it is, is not the only reason to buy Bison. Our consistently high quality is another. Our associates at Bison are dedicated to fulfilling customer requirements and quality expectations.
As evidence, Bison is one of just four companies selected to serve in a demonstration cycle at the INFAC (Instrumented Factory for Gears) project located at the Illinois Institute of Technology and sponsored by the Defense Logistics Agency. And we are key participants in the ASME Gear Research Institute Industry/Vehicle Bloc and the American Gear Manufacturers Association Worm Gear Research Programs.
Specialists for Difficult Applications
Bison has been focusing on supplying manufacturers who incorporate motors, gearmotors, or reducers in their products for more than 4 decades. In that time we've become an industry leader manufacturing PMDC motors, gearmotors and reducers under the Bison Gear & Engineering Corporation name in St. Charles, Illinois.
Bison Meets and Helps Set Industry Standards
Bison is a member of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA), and all of Bison gearmotors and reducers are certified to meet AGMA’s high standards. Bison personnel are also members of AGMA and ISO Standards Committees. In addition, Bison has the engineering and manufacturing capabilities to meet military specifications, and the company’s quality assurance system is certified to MIL I-45208A.
Most of Bison’s standard motors are Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed and Canadian Standard Association (CSA) certified, and all are capable of meeting both UL and CSA standards. CE listings are available, with IP-54 enclosures and Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) on select models in our PMDC product line. Bison personnel serve on the Industry Advisory Council (IAC) on electric motors at Underwriters Laboratories.
