Torque Talk How to Make Your Mark in Europe
As markets globalize, we in the United States have to learn new rules
for product acceptability around the world. In particular, the E.U. requirements for
electrical safety impact your designs for products that incorporate motors.
You should be especially aware of the directives on Electromagnetic
Compatibility and Low Voltage electrical equipment. They require CF Marking as a
declaration that the product has been designed and tested for electrical safety and
compliance with EMC emission standards. To bear the CE mark, motors must be tested to
IEC 34-1 standards either in house or by a recognized test facility such as BSI or VDE.
Bison motors and gearmotors pass the tests, and bear the Mark! We also offer metric
dimensions and European voltages, so your Bison-powered product will be acceptable worldwide.
As an engineer who recognizes all the factors you face in specifying motors,
I'm pleased that Bison's engineers have developed shielded and filtered PMDC motor designs
that meet European EMC standards.
If other components in your system are susceptible to RFI/EMI, just call
1-800-AT-BISON and we'll be glad to steer you to a one-stop testing/certification facility.
